Following the opener on March 28, five-time champions Mumbai Indians will be at home against three-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29th.
The following day will see another five-time winner, Chennai Super Kings, on the road against inaugural winners Rajasthan Royals.
Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson, Player of the Tournament in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2026, will be in focus in the fixture, after a pre-season trade saw Jadeja join RR from CSK with Samson moving the other way.
This year’s IPL will reportedly feature a total of 84 matches – 10 more than last season. All teams will face each other twice in a double round-robin format. The top four teams will move to the playoff stage, which will feature four matches.
Following the group stage, the top two teams will face off in Qualifier 1 with the winner directly progressing to the final.
Meanwhile, the IPL teams finishing third and fourth in the league stage will play in Eliminator 1 with the winner of the match facing the loser of Qualifier 1 in the Qualifier 2 to decide the second team in the final.
So far, in every IPL season involving 10 teams, the sides have been split into two virtual groups.
